this might come as a shock to some of you, but I’m not actually a fan of this “campaign.” I am a great fan of jokes about misandry. I have two tags devoted to it here on this tumblr of mine.

but I’m not a fan of a “campaign” of misandry jokes that cheerfully accepts men into the fold. men participating? get the fuck out. you’re not one of the good ones, you’re not clever, and you’re not funny. I don’t want men participating in a running joke about misandry, because they do think it’s a joke. they can put up their little macro or whatever and giggle about the absurdity of misandry, because they don’t take it seriously. they participate in this because they don’t think misandry is “real” - which, yes, is better than the likes of ryking or taa or all the other shitbag mras, who think it is real and an oppression.

but misandry is real. it is not an oppressive force or even a bad thing, but it is real. and valid. there are women, including me, who hate or distrust or despise men as a response to the patriarchal society we live in, the way men act, and the way they have treated us. this is a valid response and coping mechanism, as I’ve said a million times before.

and when men make light of it, they are treating it as an absurdity. how absurd that women should hate men! see the problem? our genuine anger/hatred/resentment/etc. all just got invalidated as an impossibility so a man could make a reverse sandwich joke. and tbh, it is seeming more and more like this campaign is about giggling over how impossible something like that is, rather than trying to actually be clever.

then, of course, there is the other problem with their participation. it’s symptomatic of something “feminist” men do all the time. they exempt themselves from the men that are being critiqued and instead include themselves as just a feminist. the most extreme example is hugo schwyzer, who is capable of telling other violent men to get the hell out of feminism but believes he deserves a second chance, but this happens all the time in littler ways. now here it is happening again, men chuckling about misandry. and if they haven’t dismissed it in their minds as unreal or absurd, then surely they have assumed that they aren’t hated. look, they made a funny picture about how they shouldn’t have any rights! hahaha, right ladies?

no, not right, bro. your jokes are tired and weak and guess what? I hate you too. you’re a man, and apparently a tryhard unfunny man. so I hate you. that’s kind of the point, bud.

and then on top of all these men stinking up the place, you have the appalling use of a fucking swastika in the “official flag” or whatever. that’s not funny or clever or anything but tasteless, offensive, and across the line. and people are actually defending it, as though being called a “feminazi” entitles someone to use fucking nazi imagery in their humor.

and my final, more petty, grievance is that 99% of this isn’t even funny. all of these jokes have been done before or are hardly clever. I would much rather see genuinely funny jokes at the expense of men than overdone “hahaha men must make the sandwiches now!” jokes repeated 12 different ways, even if nowhere do they actually explicitly say it is a misandrist joke. I promise you I’ll be able to figure it out!

hell, I would take a serious discussion about what we hate about men, uninterrupted by whiny shits trying to tell us we aren’t being inclusive enough of the men.

Yes, actually. I agree with all of this.

I thought I wouldn’t, because I kind of do pull the “misandry ain’t real” thing from time to time, but I guess I need to stop saying that because really, I don’t mean it isn’t real. What I’ve meant is that it is insignificant (on the part of the male), as compared to misogyny. It is, however, VERY SIGNIFICANT as a means by which we deal with the heaps upon heaps of misogyny, fear and oppression we face on a daily basis.
